Folio, oblong (mm 330x240). Leaves [2], with 80 engravings in aquatint, etching, and drypoint. Small defect in the margin of plate 8. Well conserved. Contemporary, quarter leather, Spanish binding with decorations in gold. Beautiful prints in a high quality set.



Prima edizione, before numbers. Tiratura a soli 300 esemplari. L'ultima e più affascinante delle serie di Goya. «The plates were 'rag-wiped' and printed with considerable tone. This method of printing, followed in most of the later editions, was no doubt adopted partly to satisfy mid-nineteenth century taste for richly-toned impressions, but probably also to bring out with the maximum intensity every detail engraved on the plates [...] No contemporary set of working proof for the Proverbios exists» (Harris I, p. 51).
